Development of Knowledge and Vocational Skills for Transition to Sustainable Peri-urban Areas with Integrated Climate Solutions
PeriNEXT is an Erasmus+ KA210-VET project funded by the Portuguese National Agency. It aims to support the transition of peri-urban areas, those located between rural and urban zones, toward climate neutrality. PeriNEXT addresses critical environmental, social, and planning challenges caused by unregulated urban growth and climate change.
The project empowers VET professionals, such as urban planners, environmental and energy engineers, mobility experts, and social specialists with advanced knowledge and interdisciplinary tools. Through national workshops, international collaboration, and digital toolkits, PeriNEXT promotes climate-smart planning and innovative solutions for sustainable development.
PeriNEXT will deliver key outputs including the Climate Neutral Awareness Kit, the Discover Today brainstorming workshop, and the Design Our Tomorrow International Ideathon. These activities will help VET institutions and local authorities strengthen their capacity to implement inclusive, replicable, and future-proof climate strategies across Europe. The project emphasizes hands-on learning, cross-sector collaboration, and real-world application. All results will be openly accessible and designed to support long-term impact beyond the project’s lifetime.
PeriNEXT aims to support climate-smart transitions in peri-urban areas through targeted actions in education, innovation, and sustainable planning. To achieve this, our objectives are as follows:
Raise Professional Awareness
Develop Practical Tools
Encourage Joint Participation
Integrate Innovative Solutions
Strengthen VET Capacity
Support Policy Alignment
PeriNEXT delivers practical and scalable results to support climate-smart development in peri-urban areas. The project generates the following key results to support its goals:
Discover Today – Brainstorm Workshop
The first key action of the project involves national and international workshops that bring together VET professionals and local stakeholders. Through group discussions and SWOT analyses, we will identify the main challenges of peri-urban areas and co-develop sustainable, climate-smart solutions.
Climate Neutral – Awareness Kit
One of the core components of PeriNEXT is the development of a comprehensive digital toolkit containing best practices, guidelines, case examples, and strategic recommendations for climate-neutral planning in peri-urban zones. Designed to be practical, visual, and multilingual, this kit will serve VET providers, trainers, and local governments across Europe.
Design Our Tomorrow – International Ideathon
The Ideathon brings together experts from different sectors to collaboratively design innovative and practical solutions for peri-urban sustainability. Teams will work on real-world challenges and present their proposals in an international setting to inspire long-term, impactful, and cross-border cooperation and knowledge exchange.
Who We Empower
