Within the scope of the PeriNEXT project, we held the “Discover Today – Brainstorming Workshop” in Türkiye, where we explored peri-urban areas from the perspective of Social Inclusion and Social Policies.
At this table, key challenges such as social cohesion issues, inequalities driven by rapid urbanization, migration pressure, youth moving away from these areas, lack of social infrastructure, and weak local participation mechanisms were identified. Proposed solutions included promoting social cooperatives, creating spaces where young people can unleash their creativity, involving local residents directly in decision-making processes, strengthening social research capacities in municipalities, and improving service infrastructure in peri-urban transition areas.
These findings shed light on policy recommendations that can strengthen social solidarity and reduce social inequalities in peri-urban regions. In line with this, the Climate Neutral Awareness Kit we are developing within the project aims to provide innovative tools to address these needs.
