We are delighted to share that we successfully held the PeriNEXT International Virtual Workshop, bringing together professionals, experts and stakeholders from Município de Valongo, IGEA and SDSN – Sustainable Development Studies Network to collaboratively explore the climate-neutral transition of peri-urban areas across Europe.
Throughout the full-day programme, participants engaged in rich discussions covering:
🔹 the key challenges and opportunities identified in national workshops held in Portugal, Türkiye and Belgium
🔹 comparative perspectives on peri-urban transformation in each partner country,
🔹 cross-country synthesis sessions to recognize common patterns,
🔹 thematic breakout discussions on local-level solutions, and
🔹 inspiring best practices from Portugal, Türkiye and Belgium that demonstrate actionable approaches toward sustainable and inclusive peri-urban development.
The workshop created a collaborative space where experts from urban planners, environmental and energy engineers, mobility specialists, social policy professionals, local authorities and civil society actors shared knowledge, exchanged experiences and collectively shaped ideas for the next stages of the PeriNEXT project.
We believe that the insights generated during this workshop will strengthen our joint effort to develop climate-neutral strategies and will continue to inspire the next generation of urban planners working for resilient and sustainable peri-urban futures. 🔆
